Rate race

a poem by Margaret Swamy

Someone out there,
Have feats to achieve.
In this complex world,
of man and machine.

Work is their breath,
their bread and love.
Money and power,
are the veins of their life.

It’s hell of a circle, some do realise,
Oh! What a rat race this is!

Management and policies,
policies and politics,
are keywords for their
instant success.

Tin soldiers of today,
are out on the field.
To fight for completeness,
rather than happiness.

It’s hell of a circle, some do realise,
Oh! What a rat race this is!

Work, work and work,
are drilled in their brains.
Nothing but the best
is but for them to gain.

Snatch, steal or borrow,
for means do not count.
To just reach for the summit
and believe they are the best.

It’s hell of a circle, some do realise,
Oh! what a rat race this is !
