Abreast

a poem by Jayati

Papa’s pet, a little girl
In her tiny little beautiful world
A bundle of joy, she is playful.

As the years flow
Into teenage years she grows
An emotional world she draws.

Travelling miles
Through adolescent years
Having lots, she styles.

Makes innumerable friends
After college and university
Professional ties.

She works with grace
Meets her man but marries in haste.
She becomes worldly wise.

Blessed with son precious
She is ever anxious over baby, cries.
Pain intermitted her smiles.

Intense optimism hers
She has to look forward up rise.
Era, manage affairs.

Baby, husband, domestic, office
Docs, relatives, in-laws, family politics,
Banking, marketing, vexing blows.

Burdens inflate in rows. However
Holding on to tradition and values, she acts force.
Struggles womanpower braves sorrows.
