The day break

a poem by Ramesh T A

The top of the tree over the top of the tall building,
The floating clouds of the orange and grey colours of the blue sky,
Dawn dapples through to break yet another day.
The birds and squirrels here and there,
Chirping, cuckooing and squeaking,
Above and below move, jump and fly.
Freedom is the birth right only to them;
No restrictions there in their freedom;
The happy state of life to dream about.
Restrictions and laws in the name of justice
makes man’s freedom a boredom.

Satisfaction, the essence of all activities is lost;
And the best things of duty are destroyed.
Long back Orwell’s novel 1984 predicted;
“War is peace” and “Freedom is slavery”.
Now JUSTICE of the society is not firm but JUST-ICE only!
So when freedom and justice are in jeopardy,
Who can love to carry out one’s duty?
Faith itself is in crisis to-day;

How can the recovery of faith be possible?
“Do your duty without expecting any reward”,
So says the Lord in the Bhagavad Gita.
Krishna’s Gita and Plato’s Republic say about Dharma and Justice.
Are they meaningless worn out obsolete ethics?
Nay, their natural justice (individual and social) is true forever.
Once division of labour was left to the State to decide.
Now the people have the choice to choose their duty.
But how many are discovering their Self to know their Duty?
The times have changed according to the historical changes.
The civilisation and the culture too have changed.
The new order at the expense of the old spirit has left faith in darkness.
Hence duty, justice and Freedom are in doldrums.
The Sun rises and sets to give life and light to all creatures.
The divine animal, cow gives milk for the whole of mankind.
Likewise many living beings do many things for the evolution of life on the earth.
But man has the choice to contribute better his share in this evolution.
Justice is to do duty suitable to true nature, after discovery, towards perfection.
That is dharma that enables freedom enjoyable.
But don’t know when that day break will come,
When like birds and squirrels all can move,jump and fly in freedom!
