a poem by Mainak Chatterjee

Why is there so much violence everywhere?
Even toddlers are not spared
Living every moment in anxiety and fear.

How can we become so cruel and inhumane?
Crushing blossoming flowers and buds with feet
And taking pride in our insane deed.

Where all the smiles and innocence have gone?
Made to sleep in the graveyard for ever
With a broken heart soaked in blood and tear.

What if one day we find our own seed
Lying naked in blood pool struggling to get up on the feet.
