I think I know my God

a poem by Ruby Moses Ezekiel

Some say,
You dwell in a stone,
And they find You there.

Some say,
You are where truth lives,
And they find You there.

Some say,
You are the king of heaven,
Only You know,
Whether they find You there.

Some say, You favour,
The greatest follower,
Of your principles,
They might have,
As well realized You.

But I find You not,
In stones and principles,
But in purity of hearts,
Not in skies far away,
But on earth all around
Everywhere!

The worldly accepted,
Stony principled truths,
Will always be right,
But, Oh! God,
I believe… I know,
That I am not wrong,
For there is, I believe,
Not just one path,
Leading towards You,
Each path leads us,
To a different facet of Yours.

Oh! God, Help me,
In my path to know You,
To realize,
Just one of Your facets.
