Oddities

a poem by Zurya

Have you noticed that clouds are never odd-shaped
And that mountains are never straight

Can you tell me where I can buy moonlight
And the light of a firefly

Do you know why flowers are so soft
And butterflies so light
How can eyes see what ears can’t
And how can ears hear what others can’t
Why can’t cats bark like dogs
And why do we keep money behind locks
It’s not an eclipse that’s odd
But today sure is
It’s not the odd that I find odd
It’s just little things like these
Which I find to be oddities

How can a knife cut through butter and not milk
And why is bread made in loaves not slices
Why can’t birds fly to space across the sky
Do ants know they are so
Is there anyone without a name
And were cows meant to be tame
Do elephants have trunks coz they are liars
And why are we afraid of tigers
How does water turn hard when cold
And why does a river flow
It’s not an eclipse that’s odd
But today sure is
It’s not the odd that I find odd
It’s just little things like these
Which I find to be oddities

Do we have to die to have lived
And do we have to breathe
Why can’t babies talk
And what if plants could walk
How do you colour crayons
And why do we look for reasons
Why can’t everyday be the same
And who invented fame
Why do we like things that rhyme
And will there ever be lots of time
It’s not an eclipse that’s odd
But today sure is
It’s not the odd that I find odd
It’s just little things like these
Which I find to be oddities
