Despairing Soul

a poem by Rinu M Varghese

Tell me no to my plea for help
I will go away from you, but lies?
Avoiding me won’t help, don’t you see?
You said the trust is intact.
Then why so? Let me know.
You deserted me again
When I most needed you.

You lied… the trust is gone
I can see, and me anywhere around
Much too undesirable?
I have read the silent message
In the folds of your voice
Move away, Clear off
You can say it aloud now.

Don’t frown for not this is the first
Occasion I have been mistrusted so
Used to this hurt I am
Painful though it still is
No ill feelings against you I hold
Nothing new for you have done
By condemning my presence.

Tomorrow is yet to come
And blessings it shall bring
For sure to me, I feel.
Since I just cannot stay
Down below for long
So like the majestic phoenix
I shall start over again.

You too will then cheer me
But what you do not know
I will tell you now
You, dear family, were needed most
When everything went wrong
And there was no one else to help
Instead, pursued the trail of disloyal world…
