Come and go

a poem by Suman Kumar

Sodium vapour lamp kills
the romance of the night.

Moonlight and the waves
refute, they don’t give up the fight.

Standing in the middle
of this weird battle.

Loner that I am
I try to break the shackles.

It is you, it is me
it is us- hurt reigns supreme.

Is this the way it ought to be
together-apart, or is it just a dream?

People on the dance floor
laser lights and beer.

They try to break free
swaying bodies but the minds are not here.

Tobacco smoke corrupts the sea breeze
break of the dawn brings the end of the act.

I walk out smiling the sun’s shining
rest assured my conscience’s intact.
