War and Peace

a poem by Sumita Jagannathan

Sometimes when I’m all alone
I think little thoughts
Crazy world like this
Of peace that is not
People fighting, tears everywhere
Broken homes, broken hearts
Weeping widows and crying children
No one playing their part
Where did all the love go
The peace and understanding
Souls depart, utter waste
Leaving us aching
I long for Utopia
Wonderful as it may seem
A land where smiles abound
Sound of laughter, sunshine beams
Every human and animal
Live in harmony
Sounds too good to be true
I’ll wait, this I must see
In as much as we fight
And fill lands with sorrow
I hope that we will find
Joy and peace tomorrow
