Vows now broken

a poem by Rick Van Weenen

When trust you crushed, I died inside
Through years of marriage, truth had lied
The thread of love it broke
Disbelief, with questions many
The reasons, I weren’t sure of any
To bitter truth I woke

You played the field, the hurting game
Nothing now will be the same
You cracked the last foundation
I’m sure it didn’t mean a thing
That I wore your wedding ring
You fell into temptation

Goodbye I beckon, pain will pass
Where you are, enjoy the grass
And all that lays ahead
For when your cold and all alone
And your heart has turned to stone
Enjoy your empty bed
