a poem by Rick Van Weenen

Emotions in a mixer
Feelings running wild
Topsy-turvy is my world
I’m weaker than a child

Thoughts outweigh the normal day
The heart it skips and throbs
The gut it tightens, acids run
My normal day it robs

Stress has taken over
The monster’s deep within
Invading moments I hold dear
It quickly stepped on in

The bead of sweat, the aching breath
Headaches come and go
Knowing not which way to turn
Each day more pain does show

Changing who I am inside
The inner self has gone to hide
Somewhere where the heart sings
Satin burns till I can’t bare
Breaking spirit that was there
Long days like death it brings
