Status Quo

a poem by Sheela K . Sharath

You did not tug at my heartstrings
you were a friend,
ready and willing to
share my mirth, my sorrows
my laughter and my tears.
Like lightning
that streaks the sky for
a split second
you were there beside me
and like the thunderstorm
fades out with
shards of now light,
then sound,
you were gone
and I’m back
to status quo.
