Adhithi, a Guest

a poem by Suresh Krishna

They told me you were waiting for me.
That patiently you sat in front of my door.
You knocked twice but did not come in.
I sat inside waiting for you.
Oblivious of your waiting and knocking,
I waited with my illusions and my misplaced faith;
barely moving, lest the sound of my ‘payal’ break my
concentration.
I waited in the ‘pooja’ room,
while you were waiting for me outside
with dusty feet unwashed.
