A Wish

a poem by Anupama Pyarelal

I would like to die,
Without a whimper.
Here today,
Gone tomorrow,
Quietly, painlessly.
God forbid I should-
Linger on and on,
Clutching the last,
Frail strands of life;
A pain, a bother,
To others.
I would rather die-
Young, than live,
To see a century,
Crawl by, so slowly,
Like a snail with nothing,
To do;
While I lead a-
Bland existence,
An anachronism.
