My darling Diamond

a poem by Smita Khadawala

Said John, ‘Simon a diamond’,
I’ll give it to her,
To win my love and woo her,
It will be the best gift in the world,
Equal to a million flowers and thousands of chocolates,
She‘ll be mine, mark my word,
I’ll meet her at the India Gate.’
So John went prepared the next day,
Armed with a little diamond,
Rosy met him within a while,
Never interested in him,
Because she hated his puffy cheeks and cheeky nod,
She told him to make it quick and short,
And not bore her with endless words.
But out came the diamond and told it all,
Equal to a thousand words;he didn’t speak at all,
‘You can take my heart away’,said she,
‘But never take this diamond away from me.’
And they lived happily forever since then,
And that diamond is with her till this day.
