A Diamond Friend

a poem by Shashi Krishna

They said you were everywhere,
They said you were omnipresent,
But I discovered,one fine day,
Your love was ever so pleasant.

It was you who brought me into the world,
You who said I was the best,
Told me to do my work,
And to God leave the rest.

You were the one who stood by me,
Telling me the ways of life,
To differ a good and a bad,
And a pen from a knife.

Thank you,
For all I can say is this, mother,
As ages roll by and I think,
A diamond like you…is forever.
