A Prisoner’s Cry

a poem by Jagganathan V

A dull life as a prisoner, I lead,
With none here to share my wrongful deed;
I have lived on the darker side of the world for many years,
Thus unveiling the true disguises of my near and dear.

I do regret for that shameful cold murder,
With evil thoughts, intentions of climbing soon the top of the ladder;
Though persuaded by my kith and kin,
But it is too late to realise that I’ve committed a sin.

I can pray only to the one, the Almighty, the lone saviour,
But not for saving me from the jaws of death,
But to see the brighter side of the world, just once, just once,
I swear and then shall I peacefully rest my soul.
