The Schoolyard Bully

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

The bully in the schoolyard
picked on the friendless one
he who had lost his slingshots,
accusing him of having hidden one in his back pocket.
After beating him up the bully was in a friendly mood
promised to be his protector
but first he had to hand over his dinner money on a regular basis!
The bully strutted about in the schoolyard
followed by sycophants,
little did he know
that in the bike shed
they were preparing a revolt,
which would make the bully shake his head
and not understand why he was hated so much.
