A School Kids Prayer

a poem by Ratnakar

Where there are no tomes of books,
To burden our tiny and delicate backs,
Where we are not forced to cram,
Endlessly for hours together,
Where teachers with big canes,
Don’t hit us hard making us weep,
Where we can enjoy the sunshine,
And play for hours together,
Where every Monday is something,
We don’t look forward to with fear,
Where we can tell our thoughts,
Without fear of punishments,
Where there is no homework,
Or Punishment or Caning,
Into that heaven of freedom my father,
Let me awake every day.
