On My 28th Birthday

a poem by Sankhajit Bhattacharjee

For 28 years, I am taking bath in the sun rays,
enjoying the moon’s beauty,
watching the vagabond clouds giving frequent rains,
silver twinkling of the stars
and vastness of the generosity of sky.

For 28 years I have revolved round the sun along with the mother earth;
seen the oceans attacking shores,
the mountains standing with their heads held high,
the brisk flowing of rivers,
the silence of deserts,
the serene greenery of forests,
the colored feathers of peacocks,
the jumping of rabbits,
the roaming of bees
and the smiling of flowers.

For 28 million years I wish to stay on this heavenly abode,
sense her beauties
and write poems.
