The Curse

a poem by Uma Parthasarathy

(On Child Labour)

The cocoon breaks
And life wriggles out
In the bliss of ignorance
The abyss stares and sighs
Hunger, the wretched gnaws
The nest forsakes
To a brutal barter.
Crippled wings
Yearn
‘Flying amidst flock of colors’
Fallen, a curse clutches
The barren boughs of humanity.
