What he is to me…

a poem by Sumita Jagannathan

One fine day, when I least expected it
A stranger came into my life, into my heart
Announcing his arrival with a sweet smile
Made me realize, made me aware
That he might be my other half, another part
Of the whole that is me, now he belongs;
He is my inner self, the one I can trust
A projection of my deepest feelings
My love he did accept, again with a smile
Silly, crazy boy he is, but adorable and sensitive
To my needs and moods, he adjusts
Like the tide that swamps the beach
His love breaks on me, covering me wholly
With a sense of belonging, I finally know
That he wants me as much as I want him
This feeling, not satisfied with mere want
Transcends all known human bonds
A connection of souls in loving embrace
Hope, faith and trust beyond compare
In him, I finally found, if not an answer
A reason to live, the basis of existence
He is to me, my life’s elixir, precious-
Precious beyond compare, beyond reason
I may have been sad, but I smile now
And will continue to smile everyday-
Because of his love, which makes me “Me”.
