Song

a poem by Sridevi Rao-Nair

I lose myself
In the call of the cuckoo bird.
I hear it in the rustle of leaves
Papery in summer.
The cat troubles it this morning.
A great squawking
And a whoosh of wing.
Over in a trice.
And again
Leaves in the sun
Green and light.
The song of the cuckoo bird
Enfolded.
