The day I became a woman

a poem by Shia

I sit by the side of the lake,
my reflection floats, dwindles as my life.
Memories whorl the water,
life turns back to those days that were.
The days when all my loved were with me,
I was filled with pride to have so many to care.
Not knowing those days were numbered,
with the passing of the childhood days
there were none to care.
I lost all my loved ones,
only to be left alone waiting for a stranger.
Smiles were false, spring had left,
flowers fell, I was a stranger.
I waited for the spring in my life to return,
sitting by the side of the lake.
Many passed by, friends, enemies, strangers,
none stayed for long.
Loneliness was only my friend,
on a fine day a stranger became everything to me.
And I became a woman.
