Force of Adulthood

a poem by Sandhya

Change- Life’s most threatening challenge
What should I do? Embrace it or delay it?
Life is dragging me forward
Forward to adulthood
It is pulling me to the world where reality lies
A world where true laughter is considered a prize
A world where honesty is considered as naivety
I want to delay adulthood
I want to run back to childhood’s familiarities
As I feel myself being pulled forcefully
I also feel my child like innocence slipping away
What should I do? Embrace adulthood or delay it?
I feel the weight of maturity and responsibility burdening me
I sense the harshness and cruelties of the real world
A world where people cringe to give a penny to the poor
A world where desire is attained by deceit
The world which once had a blue sky has altered its appearance
I now see the real world- the world filled with grey skies
