Lamentation

a poem by Ramaswamy L N Prof.

Before I found thee I was an aimless wanderer
roaming like a wanton child everywhere
I crave no other blessing than thy presence benign
making my soul feel delight in total self oblivion
will not be my love a reality in every sense
rather than be a mere dream, Oh! Lord!
Joy of my soul, vigour of my spirit,
the pupil of my eye, thou are the light
to lit my life; in my inmost thought
pervading like the infinite sky I see the vast
forgetting the sufferings of the my past grim;
will not be my love a reality than a dream!
Lamp of my life! Oh! my dearest without thy love
wither I like the tree denied of water, by Jove!
Like the earth devoid of rain, Oh! My love!
In the rippling waters of the flowing river
see I nothing but thy sweet smile near,
will not be my love a reality than a dream!
When thou speaketh, thy sweet words are
sweeter than the sweetest honey rare,
when thou smile, it gladdens my whole being,
when thou laugh, it sounds like a music divine,
in the giant galaxy of the Heaven,
will not be my love a reality than a dream!
Oh! God! does thou exist at all!
If thou exist I wish thee in all
to be born as mortal and suffer
the pangs of love and separation after
in desperation without the bliss
and feel immensely what a woman is!
