Rishikesh!

a poem by Rajah Iyer S

Years of longing ended in a journey
Away from Home to this Heavenly Bliss!

A bumpy ride on Roads so unsafe
Haridwar was first I saw that Smiled!

Up the Hills the Brooks I thought followed
I landed in an Ashram of Tranquility sublime!

The giggling Ganges in Silver Clad Anklets
Froze my Blood for setting my feet on Her Breasts!

Courage I took and teased this Angel
Cowards were my legs, ran back to my Room!

Soul persuaded yet another innovative try
Let Her Feet get a bit of my Head of Grey!

My clay turned Cold,
Conqueror was my Mind over Her Body!

Still my feet trembling an unsteady stand
Undercurrent of Her pulling me apart!

All my Buddhi Cleaned by Her Grace
Smilingly She teased ‘come again in the morn!’

Sun broke lose a bit amidst clouds of Noon
My feet stepped out unconscious to my Clay!

Again was she surprised to see my Soul
Searching her afternoon Whole!

The Beauty of Her Silvery Face
Turned a bit Gold in Suryas Rays!

I know not hours did I spend
Under the Sun as an awestruck friend!

The other parts of my body, angry at the feet,
Begged me to feed lest they would strike!

Let me earn a Break from Her I said
Eating amidst the Biskhas of Sadhus!

A True sight of Souls kneeling in Faith
To this Graceful Girl in Obedience of Om!

The Hills and Trees protecting Her Face
Led my Soul to Bagirathi, Her kin!

Did I say if I ever wish to die
Peacefully at Her Lotus Feet!

Eating the Fruits
From Vrikshaas at this Place!

Dreaming of Om
That my Soul only Knew!

Being away from Home
Of all those mundane matters of money!

Keeping me trim
Always young with Her Charm!

This Ganga of Rishikesh,
The Most Beautiful Lady of my Life!
