Dragon

a poem by Pierre Pandy

The dragon woke or reborn
or whatever, with a hang
over and didn’t want to
be here but would come
down from legend for a
while to share his commitment
to being void
to spit flame and smoke
and thus he spake:

“I am beaten by life and time
the two double teamed me when
I was taking a virgin
they rule with the invisible strings
I feel the tugs same as you and
hate to be pushed or dragged same
as you.
I burn the sky in hopes that
some master will protest but
I only burn my self
I scream but only cause my
throat to bleed to feed me”

“But you don’t believe me ‘cause
you don’t believe in me.”
