Desires

a poem by Lakshmi

They take away the joy in life
Wringing out tears from a weary heart
Thieves
Stealing moments of happiness
Of their happiness
Leaving a weeping soul
Expectations
They leave me disappointed
Loved ones ’n broken promises
All that remain in my life
A hollow mind, a lonely heart
A self, refusing to part with
This waning reflection of myself
Desires
They torment me
Then
I’m left shattered
In this lonely, lonely world
