Meaningless Fight

a poem by Brinda Srinivasan D

Empty hand we come to earth while birth
Empty hand we leave the earth while death
Kings and soldiers fought in the past
Without knowing the real actual cost

Soldiers and people starved from thirst
Families and wives prayed with fast
Gaining victory some lost their breath
Attaining defeat others left the earth

Both are dead but one got coward degree
While other got martyrdom and honor
Just for the bare piece of land they fought
Gaining that piece they felt satisfied

From the first century they’ve started practicing
To acquire mastery over their warfare
No king or ruler is exception
Coz their names are printed without omission

Expanding territory is their only duty
For this they are ready to sacrifice anything
A few enjoy meaningless victory
While majority suffers from untold misery

War leaves only handicapped, insane
Bereft orphan, widow, destruction and damage
Past generation alone fought ignorantly
Why then present generation also fights meaninglessly?
