A Joyful Shuttlecock

a poem by Sudarshan Madhav Karhale

As light as a feather,
tossed to and fro,
I sail over the net.
Players opposing each other,
whether win or lose,
enjoy the game for sure,
I bet.

I dart as an arrow
when smashed hard,
I fall as a snowflake
for a gentle blow.

The shuttles smile
when they hit my cork;
I sling across
with a twisting torque.

Until broken completely,
I am alive;
if you know who I am,
give me a high five.
