Playful Paws

a poem by Sudarshan Madhav Karhale

Tickling my ears
with her long and tender whiskers,
comes a snowwhite cat;
meowing in her sweet tone,
she says, “Good morning!”, to me,
stretching on a silken red fabric mat.

Sneaking through a doorhole,
she waits for the milkman;
her small, brown eyes grow round and big
when he pours a litre from his can.

She rolls over a yarn ball
dyed in the shade of her favorite colour-sky blue;
her front paws got stuck on the wooden table
while mishandling a nasty glue.

As sun feels hot
outside the house,
she takes a short noon nap;
though slept under a cooling giant fan,
she wears a creamy cotton hat.
