Dear Melancholy

a poem by Diwakar Dhakal

This city is an ocean of strangers
Where we often keep rift
People become friends and foe
Without knowing instinct traits
Dear Melancholy, I live in a city society
Which is ridden heterogeneity

Educated people expatriate from the country
Uneducated repatriate to the country
There is loss of holistic prosperity
Which became Humpty-Dumpty

Everywhere there are vindictive people
I cannot envision helpful people
When these blink eyes see vendetta
I feel dreadful about my existence

Felons and felonies are exonerated
Innocents are incarcerated
The law is detached for the rich
Where it is attached for the poor
Dear Melancholy, I live in a city society
Which is ridden heterogeneity

People are involved in fleeting courtship
Which is profound infatuation
Though it gives instant euphoria
But last in permanence consequence

Marriage amalgamates two loving-birds
With the full-fledged close-knit
Admire to the skies at prenuptial
And end with divorce and partition
Dear Melancholy, I live in a city society
Which is ridden heterogeneity

The plunder and venal politician
Detained us in their ideological prison
Ousted the hard-won democracy
Took the country into quicksand
By cutting off people’s amenities

People believe in profane
Rather than sacred life
Who commit bad deeds are promoted here
Where good deeds are demoted
Dear Melancholy, I live in a city society
Which is ridden heterogeneity
