A (Blood) Thirsty Ocean

a poem by Latha Mohan

The Ocean,
Like a sleeping giant awoken
Whose bed beneath was shaken,
Arose with a thunderous roar,
A towering form with flailing arms
Seized men women and children,
And in a single breath
Drank their spirits
And then tossed them away,
Their discarded bodies strewn on the beach
No better than empty soda cans.
