Fashion

a poem by Ritu Mishra

Fashion:
means a tradition,
of trends of short duration,
which become an obsession
with the enthusiastic young generation.

Fashion:
teenagers’ trepidation;
being the focus, and perception,
of their apparel and disposition;
of their moods and passions.

Fashion:
youngsters’ driving force for perfection,
shelling out money without hesitation,
for their self-projection,
as a fashion-buff and sensation.

Fashion:
of hemlines and combinations;
of casuals and distinctions;
of weird and admirable variations;
of tailoring mistakes, or, tailored reproductions.

Fashion:
excuse for fleshy revelations,
prodigious styles and fabrications,
sans any attention
to the suitability of adornations.
