Change of Guard

a poem by Mainak Chatterjee

He saw his son crying
For some unknown reasons
He took his crying son
In his strong arms and patted him tenderly on his back
Finding a safe and warm place
The child stopped crying

Tired and depressed with vagaries of life
He rested his head on his son’s strong shoulder
An amazing sense of serenity
Filled his heart
He slept like a child
