Break Free

a poem by Nivedita Daw

My soul tries to break free
The chains of the society,
My soul wants to cry loud
Let me breathe and let me love.

Let me fly and touch the sky
Don’t push me in the dark
And make me cry.
Let me be an individual,
And not a girl on the altar of ritual.

Let me curve a niche-
What is if I can’t see?
I can feel which you cannot,
I have a heart which you have not,
I can see what you cannot.
