Some Days

a poem by Divesh Wadhawan

Some days I’m elated, whiff of luck.
Some days I’m dejected, odour of rot.

Some days I hanker to break free,
Some days I expect to get caught.

Some days I obeisantly do as I’m told,
Some days I don’t do as I ought.

Some days, like today, I am askew.

A strangulating hold, veins turning blue,
In an emotional double-knot I can’t undo.

Bewildered by these erratic clashes I engage in
To single out the duality of my feelings.

No truce within between Yang and Yin
In these incessant battles with my inner twin.

Some days he loses, some days I win.
