Peek a Boo…

a poem by Madhura Dabholkar

Early morning as the sun peeps out
peek a boo chirps on my window pane
her nest is on a near by tree
she comes to eat some yummy grains.

She is a tiny teeny nutty bird
I am unaware of her breed
her feathers are all colourful
and she has a long tail to hold.

If not in the mood to fly
she simply hops in the lawn
she feasts on the insects there
till the day turns to dawn.

Peek a boo is a brave bird
she is not scared of crows
and when they try to prey her
she gives them a big stroke.

Peek a boo is still single
she is yet to find her love
though she’s got bunch of friends
her best one is a handsome dove.

I like my small buddy
she is always there for me
today peek a boo’s gone to jungle
to meet her cousin Twee.

Tomorrow is a special day for her
very excited peek a boo is
there’s a big fair in the city
I have asked her to accompany me.
