Buffalo Brigade

a poem by Vidhya Jayarama Raja

Wallowing in the water,
Settling into the silt,
Wearing a coat of clay,
Carrying a crane, for a breakfast cruise,
Crossing casually at the cross roads,
Black beauties boldly blocking,
Screeching brakes,
Blaring horns, no bother –
Best bet of a speed breaker,
Challenging the cops too,
Udder ushering the milk boom,
Filling the coffers at the coffee shop,
Beasts of burden too –
The Buffalo Brigade
