Stare at purple legs

a poem by Uday Ghosal

(Experiences at a Railway Reservation Counter in Kolkata)

The destination still remote
Stare at those purple legs
the platform heel.
The cacophony, the curses
the sigh, the guffaw
the sonorous Brahma
on pedestals
my cheer
my cup of tea.
The myriad crests
fluttering of the ocean
staring at the distant
promenade.
The counter far off.
The stretching of arms
with wretched currency.
The rat race
speeding multitude
tickets in hand
a distant dream.
Now, look at those
purple legs
the platform heel
Beat the time
Battle the tedium.
