Depression

a poem by Sujatha Ramprasad

If only I could
Shut off these thoughts,
And somehow
Erase those memories,
I would be able to live on.

If only I could
Ward off my depression,
And somehow
Think about happier times,
I would be able to live on.

If only I could
Make my mind a clean slate,
And somehow
Live beyond my body,
I would be able to live on.

If only I could
Accept my failure,
And somehow
Believe success will come along,
I would be able to live on.

God,
Can you give me a hand
And make me live on?
