Peace

a poem by Samrat Chakraborty

How many years
And how many tears
How many broken hearts?
How much pelf
Can satisfy oneself
And break the barbed fence wires.

How much pain
And how much strain
Can pay the price of peace?
Just how many smiles
Put up in piles
Will cause the war to cease.

How many lives
And how many strives
Will help the white dove fly?
How much land
And burial sand
Will give the greens a try.

How many words
And how many cards
Do we need to state our stance?
I have fought
And exhausted my thought
Now, let peace be given a chance.
