My Friend

a poem by Sabeela Masroor

I have no fear except for this
after school, you know I’ll miss
the tender ways you cared for me
the love and concern that I could see.

You lend me your hand in difficult times
made me overcome problems with a smile
you shared my pain, grief and sorrow
and made me believe there’s always tomorrow.

The results were fruitful of your advice
the counselling was true, honest and wise
you never spoke in a diplomatic way
when I need correction you never delay.

Your happiness was heaven to me
all I wished and wanted to see
when you sat melancholy, alone and sad
my world altogether seemed too bad.

To think that someday we might depart
brings me a tear and stresses my heart
for a friend like you is hard to find
so special and sincere keep that in mind.

Even when we are miles apart
you’ll always be my essential part
I’ll feel your absence deep and true
and will wish these days could come anew.
