Cross Roads

a poem by Ranjit

Standing upon a lonely crossroad
And thinking of the one before,
Was it the last one, or the one before;
Where was it the wrong turn I took?
Leaning upon the rusty street lamp,
I try to think which one was it.
Parked myself upon the kerb
Looking at a desolate milestone,
How many miles to happiness?
How many miles to satisfaction?
How long will I do the things they want me to?
How long will I just exist?
O Lord! Let me soar free
Into the timeless expanse of the blue,
Upon the wings of love and poesy,
Upon the wings of music and song;
Let not the shackles of living
Weigh me down;
Free me O lord from this bondage!
