Thoughts

a poem by Bindu Vijayan

Thoughts delve deep into you,
O night!
Is it your serenity
That ruffles every fibre of my being?
Engulfing me so
With watchful eyes on me
Cold and ruthless.
Tell me, stranger,
What does your darkness hide?
And why it reveals so much of me?
My thoughts break into a hum
They vibrate with life
No longer mine!
They chat with me.
Eyeing me a bit callously.
These very thoughts
Who wouldn’t dare look up
In the proud sunlight!
They find an ally in you.
Creasing their foreheads,
They dissect me.
Sneer at me, agitate me
And then soothe me.
I am but clay in their hands.
Tired of their tete-a-tete,
O night,
They yawn
And retire with you.
