Diamonds

a poem by Athul Balachandran

I see diamonds everywhere,
In the nose studs, rings and necklaces
They whisper “It is precious”
I wonder what makes it so!
Is its beauty?
Or because it is rare?
I have seen more beautiful things
Which worth nothing
Why is it precious?
It is just a stone that shines.
Is it precious because it shines?
Gold too glitters
But gold is no match for diamonds
Flashes some secret message,
Your heart loves to receive?
Or is it something else?
Diamonds are ever a mystery for me.
