Through thick and thin

a poem by Anupama Pyarelal

Words professing love
breathed out fervent
countless times but
now empty, light
crowd the cold air
between them.
Yet a momentary warmth
sunshine spills
tendrils of regret
slowly unfold
forgiveness buds
peers through
grimy austere windows.

Hands clasp gently
a precious world.
